Frequently Asked Questions

How safe is Shilajit-Mumijo?

Our Shilajit-Mumijo is highly purified making it extremely safe! Overall, shilajit has an excellent track record as it has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine. What’s more, modern research has shown that purified Shilajit is safe for everyone:

“…in both animal and human studies, shilajit (mumie) has demonstrated a high degree of safety.”
Safety and Efficacy of Shilajit (Mumie, Moomiyo), Sidney J. Stohs

Is taking Shilajit inadvisable for some people?

There is a very small trace amount of phenylalanine, an essential amino acid. Any product containing phenylalanine is contraindicated in people who have been diagnosed with the genetic disorder PKU (phenylketonuria). It is for this reason why Shilajit-Mumijo should not be mixed with chlorinated water. The fulvic and humic acids in Shilajit, when combined with chlorine, create dangerous chemical byproducts. Beware of other commercially available shilajit extracts and powders that may have been processed with chlorinated water.

Why is Shilajit-Mumijo used to improve health and wellness?

Most health issues and allergies can be traced to poor nutrition, poor water quality, dehydration, and mineral or nutrient deficiencies. Intensive chemical farming (through pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, etc.) and chemical laden irrigation have depleted most of the natural minerals and beneficial microbes from our agricultural lands and the plants that grow on it. Shilajit-Mumijo contains over 50 vital minerals needed for energy reactions in our cells and the growth of new cells. Its high concentration of fulvic acid helps transport these mineral molecules deep into the body.

How does it work inside the body?

The minerals in Shilajit-Mumijo are in ionic form. An ion is a “reactive” atom or molecule which is either negatively or positively charged giving it a repelling or attracting nature much like a magnet. Ionic minerals allow your body to experience dynamic equilibrium due to their electrical signature. This ionic form allows these minerals to pass through the wall of the small intestine and into the bloodstream and on to other areas of the body where the minerals are used for healing, growth, or cell maintenance. Additionally, Shilajit-Mumijo is full of fulvic acid which acts as a catalyst for vitamin absorption within cells allowing your body to fully absorb them. Fulvic acid also acts as a chelating agent assisting your body in removing toxic heavy metals.

What is the recommended dosage?

Since this product is extremely safe, there are no strict guidelines for its usage. It is recommended that an average sized person take 8 drops per day. A lighter person (110 lbs.) 7 drops per day. A heavier person (250 lbs. or more) 9 to 10 drops per day. If you are suffering from an illness/condition or doing a heavy metal detox, temporarily increase the dose to 9/10 drops per day.

Can Shilajit be taken with milk or other beverages?

Yes, you can take Shilajit with any beverage that does not contain chlorinated water. The fulvic and humic acids in Shilajit, when combined with chlorine, create dangerous chemical byproducts.

What kind of water or drinks can I add Shilajit-Mumijo to, so it tastes better?

First, be sure that you are not mixing your Shilajit with chlorinated water or beverages made with chlorinated water as this will create dangerous chemical byproducts. You may add it to plain water or practically any beverage. It goes well with tea and coffee. You may also add to foods, such as soups, stews, and casseroles. It goes well with tomato-based and broth-based recipes.

Traditional Ayurvedic instructions recommend that Shilajit be added to hot organic milk or taken with ghee (clarified butter) or raw, unpasteurized honey to increase delivery to the body. Vegans can take it with sesame oil or coconut oil. Follow with a cup of warm water.

Do I need to do a detox protocol before taking Shilajit?

No. It is not necessary to detox prior to taking Shilajit-Mumijo.

We recommend the Heavy Metal Detox Workshop by Andrew Kaufman, MD to learn more about how to safely and effectively detoxify and maintain optimal health. This workshop includes detox protocols to help you create your own personal detox plan.

How long before I see or feel the benefits?

It can take up to 3 months to realize a full benefit. It all depends on the level of mineral depletion in your body.

I do not feel well after taking Shilajit. Why am I getting a negative reaction?

It is unlikely that Shilajit would cause any direct side effects or toxicity. It is possible to experience cleansing symptoms when you first take it. This is most likely because you have some heavy metals stored in your body. The fulvic acid in Shilajit-Mumijo will begin to chelate and remove heavy metals from the body, which may result in a cleansing reaction for some. If this occurs, you may temporarily discontinue Shilajit-Mumijo and consider further evaluation for the presence of heavy metals. Dr. Kaufman is available for consultation should this occur.

Can it help with Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and/or Dementia?

due to its chelating characteristics, Shilajit-Mumijo may help remove toxic heavy metals, such as aluminum and mercury, from the brain. In many scientific studies these metals have been implicated as causal factors in AD and other dementias.

Is it possible there is contamination from the Shilajit entering the rubber stopper and breaking it down?

The dropper bulb is made from high-quality silicone. As silicone is considered an inert material, you can be assured you are not experiencing negative effects from any rubber material in the Shilajit-Mumijo.

I can detect an odor from the rubber bulbs on the bottles of Shilajit-Mumijo.

The odor you notice is likely from the humic acids found in Shilajit. The bulbs are made of high-quality, lab grade silicone; silicone has a natural capacity to absorb odors.

I am taking Shilajit-Mumijo as part of a heavy metal detox protocol. When do I take it and do I combine it with the other materials?

You can take Shilajit-Mumijo at any time of the day. It can be taken with or without food. Do not take at the same time as zeolite during the heavy metal protocol. A one hour separation is adequate.

Should Shilajit and zeolite be taken separately, or can they be taken together?
Shilajit-Mumijo and zeolite should be taken separately by a minimum of one hour to prevent the zeolite from chelating the minerals in Shilajit. However, there may be a synergistic benefit from taking these products together as part of a protocol to address heavy metals.

Where is your shilajit sourced from?

Our shilajit is sourced from the Rocky Mountains of Utah. It is hand harvested with a focus on respect and sustainability to wildlife and the surrounding environment.

Should I be concerned about the small amount of Aluminum in your Shilajit-Mumijo?

The small amount of aluminum in Shilajit is natural and not in an ionized form like aluminum hydroxide in vaccines. Additionally, less than 1% of aluminum is absorbed in the gut compared to 100% of the aluminum in an injection. Some researchers argue that aluminum is a trace mineral required for good health. There is no definitive science available on exactly how many or which minerals are essential.

Does Shilajit-Mumijo expire?

Shilajit-Mumijo is made from purified Rocky Mountain Shilajit resin and distilled water. Shilajit-Mumijo has a very long shelf-life and is highly stable when protected from light, the reason for the dark glass bottles. We recommend using it for up to five years before discarding.

My last bottle of Shilajit is different. Do you test your Shilajit?

Our Shilajit is harvested in the Rocky Mountains of Utah. Each batch will vary slightly in composition as it is a natural product. All batches go through microbiological, and analytical/chemical testing.

I will be traveling and need to know the size of the glass containers for cabin carry on.

Shilajit-Mumijo is placed in 15ml or 50ml blue glass bottles with a glass pipette and a tamper-evident dropper.

How should I store Shilajit?

We recommend that you store Shilajit-Mumijo as you would other herbal and mineral supplements. Light, heat, and air can degrade plant extracts and minerals. Our Shilajit is placed in cobalt blue glass to help protect it from light. We recommend that you keep your bottles tightly sealed and store them in a dark, dry, and cool place, such as a cupboard.
